A perfect date night location

Date nights where my husband and I venture out further than 15 minutes from our home are few and far between, because who wants to pay the sitter for your travel time, am I right? So, when we were trying to figure out a place to go on a proper date night, that included a restaurant that we had never tried before, we agreed to venture out to our old stomping grounds...Morristown! Gone are the days of standing in line to get into the trendy bar at 11pm, we now wanted our date night to include a delicious meal, a well made cocktail and a place where we could sit and chat for a few hours without our kids interupting us a million times.

George and Martha’s is a sophisticated and fun restaurant with a modern American menu and a killer cocktail list. The bar area is a great place to gather with friends for a happy hour treat (Beer, wine & cocktail specials, M-F from 4-7 p.m.) or to hang out on the weekend without the rowdy (yep, I said it. I’m old.) Morristown bar crowds. A more formal (although still casual) adjacent dining room is the perfect place for a date night or a night out with the girls! George & Martha’s hosted us for dinner and we arrived on a Friday night around 7pm to a medium crowd at the bar and dining area.

We were warmly greeted and seated promptly at one George & Martha’s circular booth’s and checked out the cocktail menu on their new fandangled drink menu tablets. Hubby went with a really delicious glass of Pinot Noir and I tried a peach lemonade cocktail that was delicious (disclaimer- I had more than one).

Our appetizer was by far our favorite part of our meal- I have thought about the Tuna Nachos on a regular basis since our meal! They were served on a crispy wonton and drizzled with a perfectly spicy wasabi cream. These would be a really good happy hour app to order!

My husband and I were obviously in a seafood mood on this particular night! For dinner, I ordered the Sesame Crusted Tuna in a dashi sauce, served with soba noodles, and hubby ordered Brick Dough Wrapped Salmon. His Salmon was served alongside a potato & corn hash with a spinach pesto, and it was actually his favorite part of the dish! My tuna was seared really nicely, and the soba noodles were delish and very filling (I took half of them home and had them for lunch the next day!). The only thing that I could think of that would have made my Tuna dish better would have been if it was drizzled with the same wasabi cream sauce that was on my Tuna Nacho appetizer!

I would consider the portion sizes at George & Martha’s to be fairly generous. So much so, that after dinner, we were pretty full. But, as they say, there is always room for dessert! We knew we couldn’t finish a dessert each, so we decided to share something. Our very helpful and sweet server recommended that we try the Cookie Skillet, which is warm chocolate chip cookie topped with chocolate sauce, and the perfect dessert to share. But, the Grilled Donut Ice Cream sandwich was just calling our name, so we went with that! It was a fabulous end to our delicious meal.
