Chester, NJ is a charming small town located in Morris County, known for its rich history, quaint downtown area, and picturesque surroundings. There are several reasons why a family should consider visiting Chester:

  • Historical Sites: Chester is home to many historic landmarks, including the Cooper Gristmill, the Black River and Western Railroad, and the Chester Library. Visiting these sites can be an educational experience for children and adults alike, as they learn about the town's past. Make sure to stop by the Publik House (now PH Steakhouse) which is said to be haunted by ghosts!
  • Outdoor Activities: Chester is surrounded by natural beauty, with parks and forests offering opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, and picnicking. Families can enjoy a leisurely stroll through Hacklebarney State Park or visit the Willowwood Arboretum to learn about different types of plants and trees. 
  • Shopping and Dining: Chester's downtown area is lined with shops and restaurants, offering a variety of options for visitors. Families can browse unique boutiques and antique stores, or enjoy a meal at one of the town's many eateries. Some favorites include Redwoods Grill & Bar, The Old Mill Tavern, Pren Kitchen, Steam Soapery, Serendipity Toys & Books and The Dainty Dandelion. 
  • Seasonal Events: Throughout the year, Chester hosts a variety of seasonal events, including a fall harvest festival, food truck and music events, and an almost famous spring and fall craft show. These events offer a chance for families to participate in community activities and enjoy the changing seasons.


Be sure not to miss the farms if you visit Chester, NJ. Alstede Farms is very-well known and offers many family activities all year long, as does Stony Hill Farms.
