Why It's Important to Brush With Your Child

By Pediatric Dental Associates of Randolph May 11, 2023

DEMONSTRATE GOOD ORAL HYGIENE SKILLS
Kids learn by watching their parents.
Brushing your teeth alongside your child as they brush is a great way to demonstrate good brushing skills. Moms and Dads should make sure to teach kids to brush in a circular motion, getting each section of their mouth and all tooth surfaces.
Make brushing fun by listening to music, watching a video or setting a 2-minute timer. Watching themselves in a mirror is also a good way for kids to learn by seeing what areas they may be missing.

AGE CONSIDERATIONS
While kids may enjoy brushing independently, brushing teeth does take a certain level of manual dexterity. For this reason, parents should go over their child’s teeth with the toothbrush after they brush until they are about 8 years old.
Once your child demonstrates that they are able to do a good job on their own, then they can graduate to taking an independent role in their oral hygiene.
