Since you're a Macaroni Kid reader, chances are–for your next vacation you're looking for a family-friendly resort. If you're into tropical weather, warm, turquoise waters, tacos on the beach and a place where your kids have plenty of options for food and entertainment, then I have the perfect place for you! Here are some of my favorite things from my recent trip to the Wyndham Alltra Cancun resort.

The Wyndham Alltra Cancun is a fantastic resort and I would recommend it to any family looking to get away for a tropical and family-friendly vacation that is budget friendly.

Getting There:

From the Northeast there are plenty of direct flights to Cancun. Travel time will be about four hours and my flight cost was under $400. The Cancun airport was well-run. Getting through immigration and customs was a breeze and finding my transportation company couldn't have been easier (I highly recommend booking your transportation ahead of time. The hotel has a preferred service, Discova, which was great). I felt completely safe on the drive from the airport to the resort, and the entire time I was on the property–in case that is a concern for you.

All-inclusive:

When budgeting for a family vacation, one of the difficulties can be determining how much you can spend on food and drinks–and then staying within that budget. Since the Wyndham Alltra Cancun is an all-inclusive resort, you don't have to worry about that! Everything your kids will want is included: Food, drinks (yes, even virgin daiquiris and Pina Coladas), kids club, daily activities and a mini waterpark. For the adults, alcoholic beverages are included in addition to all dining options. There are a few activities offered at the resort from outside vendors which require a nominal fee, but most are included in your stay. If you'd like to check out some of the resort's activities, you can view the daily offerings here.

The Food:

This resort had me at BEACH TACO. Honestly, what more could a gal ask for? Salsa, A Beach Taco Bar, was by far my favorite place to eat at the resort. The beach side shack was open for lunch (until 5pm) everyday with 6 different taco base options plus quesadillas. You had countless sweet and savory toppings and salsas to truly make your tacos your own, and they were totally mouth-watering! I couldn't even give you a favorite flavor because they were each so good in their own way!

Aside from Salsa, the resort offers an indoor lunch buffet and the poolside Brasas Grill (main pool area) which offers a different grilled selection each day. There is also The Dog House food cart near the clover pool (the property's second pool located near the kid activities), serving up burgers and hot dogs all afternoon.

For breakfast, your options include the indoor breakfast buffet–or you may opt to grab a pastry from Cafe Mexico, the 24-hour on-site coffee house. You also always have the option to enjoy room service.

Dinner brings several great options. On the first night of our trip we ate at Viaggio–an Italian restaurant with a fun and funky vibe. (My recommendation is to try the roasted short rib dish. YUM!). The second night we dined at Casa De Rosa–an authentic Mexican restaurant with plenty of flair! The passion fruit margaritas were excellent and there were plenty of options for those who like a little spice! As you can see, we had a great time getting into character! Our final night we enjoyed dining outdoors at the restaurant At Sunset. This restaurant is similar to an American steakhouse, and we all sampled several different appetizers, steaks and desserts. My personal favorites were the empanadas and the skirt steak.

Finding restaurant menus ahead of time proved difficult. Once you arrive on the property, they give you access to their app which shows you restaurant hours and menus

The Beach:

No matter how hard you try, photos never seem to do the Caribbean Sea justice! Make no mistake, if you're looking for white sand and absolutely crystal-clear, turquoise waters, the Wyndham Alltra Cancun resort has the beach for you! The resort offers plenty of free loungers on the sand, and also has covered cabana beds available for an up-charge. There are staff members readily available to offer you bar service directly to your lounger or cabana, but the beach bar is just a few steps away if you prefer to stretch your legs. Whether you're craving a tasty margarita, a fruity spin on the classic mule, or tequila shots, the beach bartenders are happy to oblige your every desire!

It would take more than one article to tell you everything I loved about this resort, and more importantly, the experience of spending time with other Macaroni Kid publishers in such an amazing setting. This resort offered the perfect escape and I'm looking forward to taking my family along for the adventure on my next visit!
